We are pleased to announce that 2 DESMOND sites have gained national recognition of their outstanding efforts. Aneurin Bevan Health Board made it into the finalists shortlist at the NHS Wales Awards 2011 and Mizen Primary Care Team, West Cork have been awarded a poster presentation at the annual conference for the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Rachel Knowles & Olwyn Jones from the Newport Locality, Aneurin Bevan Health Board submitted the abstract 'Implementing structured education for patients in Newport newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes' having implemented the DESMOND Newly Diagnosed module in their local area, use the link to see the whole abstract http://nliah.com/compendiums/Articles.aspx?ArticleID=57&SiteID=1 . Following a number of stages of interviews and presentations they reached the final 3 entries in the category of 'Promoting Better Health & Avoiding Disease'.
Clair Haseldine, Bernadette O'Riordan & Clare O'Sullivan from the Mizen Primary Care Team, West Cork submitted the abstract 'The Role of the Physiotherapists in a Community Based Diabetes Prevention Programme', to the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists annual conference, following the implementation of the DESMOND Walking Away from Diabetes module in their local area. The team have been awarded a poster presentation at the up and coming event. The abstract is downloadable below.
