Commissioners

As a Commissioner, you are obliged to make choices on getting the best value and quality for health care delivery for people with diabetes in your locality. The award winning DESMOND Programme can offer you this; providing real choice in the delivery of structured education for your local population.

Using the NICE approved, quality assured DESMOND Programme means you know you are commissioning something that has been rigorously tested and has a background rooted in evidence. Our published papers have been peer-reviewed and are available in reputable journals, meaning you are commissioning a product (or range of products) that should achieve the same outcomes as these trials found. Providing you with confidence and reassurance that you are offering the very best in diabetes education to those with or at risk of type 2 diabetes in your community.

Having people with or at risk of type 2 diabetes feeling more empowered and actively self-managing this can reap benefits for everyone including the local  health economy. It’s about spending your budget in a way that is cost-effective through a solid bed of evidence and giving your patients the best start to manage this, as well as other long term conditions.

The DESMOND Programme can be commissioned and delivered in a number of ways. With the advance in technology-enabled services DESMOND is placed to be able to offer you choice in how you can commission services.

LOCALLY MANAGED

Traditionally, the way DESMOND works is that a local provider tenders for the service and is chosen by you, the Commissioner. This provider becomes licensed with us to train with, and provide the full range of DESMOND products across your patch. For this an annual license fee is charged, as well as Educator fees and resources when required.

The license that is granted provides access to our training, as well as the provision of the MyDESMOND (online programme) platform and all its associated content.

centrally Managed

We are pleased to announce that we can now offer a centrally managed service – by this we mean that the team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) will be able to administrate and deliver your DESMOND service for you. For this we offer a Digital First solution; offering a range of virtual groups, as well as provision of the MyDESMOND platform. This is all available through a streamlined referral process and administrated at one-point-of-access. You can choose from our type 2 management package, or our Type 2 prevention package or both.

We can tailor any of your requirements into a bespoke model offering you feedback on delivery, as well as outcomes on your population.
